That’s right! 2 more weeks of home grown cantaloupes and watermelons.
Not to mention the opportunity to meet Johnny Daro and his gang of melon
growers. They have hundreds of Crimson Sweet watermelons ranging from
5-25 pounds (I personally noted that they seem to be walking a little
cockeyed and may need some chiropractic attention).
Yes the
dry weather has brought a bumper crop to our community and let’s face
it, “they aren’t getting any younger”. Johnny has been growing
watermelons here for about 5 years and at 87 years young I asked him
“How much longer are you going to do this” and he said “Next year I’ll
let them do it.” The Crimson Sweet watermelons are not seedless (not
many) but they are exceptionally good. Be sure to get by there soon, say
Hi to Johnny, and if you have any of those plastic grocery bags bring
them along too (they recycle them).
