80 Year Old Pearland Resident New Drummer For The Band

Mary Jo Wuenschel had one wish for her 80th birthday - to play drums in a concert with her children.  That wish came true this weekend when Mary Jo was featured as the guest drummer for the Singing Wuenschels at Sacred Heart Church in Manvel, Texas.  The concert was sponsored by the Youth of Sacred Heart and was attended by over 100 church members and friends.

Cy and Mary Jo Wuenschel taught their six children to sing at an early age.  In the early 1970s the Singing Wuenschels performed semi-professionally at various church and youth conferences throughout Texas and the United States.  Mary Jo managed the group but never performed with her husband or children.  Following the death of her husband this summer Mary Jo began drum lessons at Mr. Gs Music in Pearland.  She has been practicing every day and was ready to debut her new found talent for her 80th birthday. "I am so grateful that my children were able to take time to indulge me in my one birthday wish" said Wuenschel. "God willing, I hope we can do this again for my 85th birthday.  By then I may be ready for a drum solo."
