Year Round – Clear Creek Community Theatre – Nassau Bay

July 11 – The Band for Brothers & Sisters – Pasadena
Theodore Anthony "Ted" Nugent, was born on December 13, in Detroit, Michigan. He originally gained fame as the lead guitarist of The Amboy Dukes and has since had an amazing career in rock-n-roll. He has also made appearances in movies, TV, talk shows and was even a regular contributor to the Waco Tribune-Herald. Bay Area 4th of July Weekend Activities
Where do you start when there is so much stuff going on? Why not the Children’s 4th of July Parade in Kemah? The parade was lead by Kemah’s Mayor Matt Wiggins on his vintage Glide Deluxe Bicycle. He led 50-60 kids that had adorned their wheels with the red, white, and blue. Next up was the Kemah 4th of July Parade. There were plenty of entries. Listen in with the Talk of the Bay. |

July 11 – Bands for Brothers & Sisters Presents Ted Nugent – Pasadena
Bands for Brothers & Sisters concert will be held on July 11, 2010 at the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo grounds. 100% of the proceeds raised at the concert will go towards building homes for wounded & disabled veterans and also the widows of the fallen who have scarificed to defend our country in the global war on terror. June 10 – Love is in the Air – Friendswood - gallery 2
Love was in the air, sitting around the tables and on the stage. The annual Hope Village Fashion Show started off with a lively performance by the dancers from the Bonnie Siscoe School of Dance. June 10 – Love is in the Air – Friendswood
Sitting in the heart of Friendswood is Hope Village, a haven for villagers that need some extra help with day to day living. Hope Village is a quiet, caring environment that hosts a wonderful little Tea Room and Gift Shop. The Tea Room menu is filled with a great selection of sandwiches, soup, quiche and yummy desserts and the Gift Shop carries a lot of crafts, hand made by the residents. May 14 thru 16 – Strawberry Festival – Pasadena
The 2010 Pasadena Strawberry Festival carried on the tradition of great fun; lots of things to see and do and one gigantic strawberry shortcake. In spite of the bad weather challenges, the show went on. Cook off teams brought in sawdust and plywood rebuilding the floors of their cook off tents.
Mud volleyball players truly got their fill of mud; literally from head to toe. Listen in to Talk of the Bay, as we give you a flavor of this great Pasadena tradition. |

May 15 – Bay Day – Kemah
So where can you find alligators, snakes, crabs and pretty cheerleaders all in the same spot? At Bay Day, hosted by the Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF). On Saturday, May 15 vendors, sponsors and visitors gathered at the Kemah Boardwalk for a hands-on and unique opportunity to learn a little bit more about Galveston Bay and to have fun doing it. May 15 – Bay Day - Kemah
Bay Day is a one-day celebration presented by the Galveston Bay Foundation and numerous community partners. The event will be held on Saturday, May 15 on the Kemah Boardwalk from 11:00am – 5:00pm. It is a fun event for families and adults that allows attendees to experience and learn more about Galveston Bay, the largest bay in Texas and one of the most productive estuaries in the country! May 4 – Diva’s Denim and Diamonds – League City
From the moment the doors opened, we knew this event would be a huge success and it was. Ladies flowed into the reception area where they were free to shop, try new products and talk with shop owners. Friends traveled together booth to booth browsing through boutique bling, cute flip flops to specialty health care. Listen in as Talk of the Bay visits with some of the ladies at the event. |

April 30 thru May 2 - 2010 Keels & Wheels Concours d’Elegance - Seabrook
Starting with the preview of automobiles up for sale, to the closing parade, Keels & Wheels Concours d’Elegance was superb. From the amazing collection of classic cars nestled under the trees of the beautiful Lakewood Yacht Club to the wonderful antique boats tied up along the harbor. May 1 – Marsh Mania – Nassau Bay
On Saturday morning, approximately 50 volunteers gathered at Nassau Bay Park. These volunteers were there to make a difference; by planting marsh grasses along the edges of the Nassau Bay peninsula. Twice a year, Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) hosts Marsh Mania, at multiple locations around the bay. The primary purpose, of the event, is to restore those transitional areas between land and water. Listen in as Talk of the Bay visits with Courtney Miller, of GBF, to explain a little bit more about this event. |

April 25 – Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams – League City
Elegantly decorated in gold and white from ceiling to floor, the FantaSea Yacht gleamed as guests arrived for the 3rd annual Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams cruise. This elegant gala on the water is a fundraiser for the Jeanette Williams Foundation. Having lost 9 members of her family to cancer, founder, Dianne Troop has her heart vested in helping young children attend “Camp For All”, each summer. April 24 – Oyster Restoration Party – San Leon
The Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) held a fundraiser at the 18th Street Pier Bar and Grill, in San Leon on Saturday, April 24. Bands played throughout the night, while guests decided which raffle basket to stake a claim in.

April 24 – Oyster Restoration Benefit – San Leon
The Galveston Bay Foundation will host the 1st Annual Oyster Restoration Benefit on Saturday, April 24th at the 18th Street Pier Bar and Grill. Doors will open at 6 pm and there will be a $10 admission fee. There will be food and raffle tickets for purchase and three bands that will play from 7 pm – 1 am. The annual State of the Lake was hosted by the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, the Bay Area Houston Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake.

April 20 – Seabrook Men Who Cook – Seabrook
The Seabrook Police Officers Association and the Seabrook Rotary celebrated this year with more than 30 guest chefs at the annual Seabrook Men Who Cook. These celebrity chefs baked, grilled, sautéed and served their favorite recipes to hundreds of guests while Pee Wee Bowen, a bay area favorite, entertained the crowd. And its great fun to boot! April 11 - Lakewood Yacht Club's Blessing of the Fleet - Seabrook
Still keeping with 55 years of tradition, the Blessing of the Fleet was held yesterday at Lakewood Yacht Club. The club was decorated with red, white and blue ribbons. Flags lined the walkways, flowers in full bloom and grounds perfectly manicured. Boats washed and waxed and adorned with festive signal flags. April 10 – Clear Lake Crawfish Festival – Clear Lake
This annual tradition has always been a great crowd draw. This year the weather was a bit wet in the morning but as the weather cleared and the sun came out the crowds came in. And it’s a good thing that they did. There were 5000 pounds of crawfish being boiled along with gumbo tastings. Listen in with the Talk of the Bay |

April 4 – Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Viewing Party – Kemah
Building plans started in November and within weeks the project was off the ground and running. Blu Shields, of Blu Shields Construction and Patrick Henderson, of Energy Solution Homes, pulled together a team of Trades and Support Leads to make up their Cobra team. What normally would take 6 months to plan, took less than 6 weeks. What normally would take days to pull together was done in hours. March 27 – Pan Jam 2010 - Kemah
The Kemah Visitors Center came to life over the weekend. Nine different bands, including the San Jacinto College and the Lone Star College bands performed in the Lighthouse District for the annual Pan Jam Festival. Hundreds of spectators enjoyed the beginning of spring, fun festival food, games, shopping and of course the great Caribbean style music. April 4 – Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Viewing Party – Kemah
The City of Kemah will host the Extreme Makeover: Viewing Party on April 4th, 2010 Easter Sunday evening, in the heart of the Kemah Lighthouse District. The Kemah Episode #719 will air on ABC at 7:00 p.m. CST (local affiliate Channel 13) with the festivities beginning at 5:30 p.m. and conclude at 9:00 p.m. For more fun details listen in as Bill Kerber, City Administrator, tells Talk of the Bay about the fun evening planned. |

March 27 - Kemah Pan Jam – Kemah
Pan Jam is a collection of authentic Caribbean steel drum, calypso music and reggae singers who have performed all over the world, at events ranging from backyard parties to Presidential receptions. On March 27, the streets of the Kemah Lighthouse District come to life with the lively beat of steel drums and Caribbean style music at the annual Kemah Pan Jam Steel Drum Festival. March 11 – Rodeo Bus Trip – Clear Lake
The rodeo was in full swing and 500 bay area party people headed to the show on 10 buses hosted by the NASA, Clear Creek, Friendswood Rodeo Committee. The fun started out at Hooters where wings and beer were flowing like water. March 6 – Bay Cup I - Seabrook
This is the 5th year for the Bay Cup series, which includes two races…..Bay Cup I (March each year) and Bay Cup II (August each year). These two events offer the opportunity to sail in Galveston and Trinity Bays in a competitive “ handicap rating” format. March 11 – Rodeo Bus Trip – Clear Lake
Brad Paisley will entertain about 500 of the bay area’s rodeo goers, this year. On March 11, the NASA, Clear Creek, Friendswood rodeo committee will host the annual bus ride to the rodeo. Ticket holders will gather at Hooters on I45 & Nasa Rd 1 for Wings & Beer then load up on buses and head off to the rodeo. Once at the stadium, these merry makers enjoy the concert and the fun happenings at the Corral Club. February 23 – Trail Riders Dinner Dance – Nassau Bay
The day started off overcast and chilly but things brightened up as the trail riders originating in Brazoria County, rode into Webster. By the time the sun set they had circled around the Gilruth Center and settled in for an overnight stay. Each year the Clear Creek, NASA, Friendswood Go Texan rodeo committee treats these rodeo goers to a special dinner from Carrabba’s Italian Grill, some live C&W music and a couple of great auctions; this year was no exception. check it out with the Talk of the Bay... |

February 20 – Passport to the World of Wine – Pearland
Hope Village was transformed to an evening of wonderful wine tasting and great culinary delights. Guests traveled table to table sampling wines from different countries. With passport books in hand, guests were able to rate the wines they tasted based on their own preferences. No one went away disappointed. February 20 – Gumbo Cookoff – Seabrook
We had just finished with the Clear Creek Cleanup so we decided to take a little side trip over to Outrigger’s Gumbo Cookoff. We weren’t disappointed; there was some really good gumbo to be had, delicious boudain and of course a few adult beverages. And for you gumbo fans out there; think about this…several of the cookoff teams served their gumbo over potato salad instead of rice. We tried it and it was pretty darn good, who would of thought??? February 23 – Trail Riders Dinner Dance – Nassau Bay
Trail Riders coming in on the Independence Trail Ride will be parading through the Webster/Clear Lake area on Tuesday February 23rd. Originating in Brazoria County the riders will be heading towards the Johnson Space Center around 3pm; where they will camp overnight. Great live entertainment will be provided by The Posse, along with both live and silent auctions. February 20 – Clear Creek Clean Up – Clear Lake Area
The main waterway of Clear Creek provides recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, birding, and wildlife observation. In the lower reaches of the Creek, the estuarine habitats serve as nurseries for species such as menhaden, shrimp, and blue crab. February 5 – Mardi Gras 2010 – Bay Area
Opening weekend of Mardi Gras is here! Krewes unveiled floats and kicked off the 2010 Mardi Gras with beads, masks, costumes and revelry. We started off our weekend celebrating with the official Krewe of Kemah, Krewe du Lac. Lead by their Premier of Fun, Annabelle Ruch, the Krewe celebrated at Bakkhus Taverna, for a night of good food, fun and drink. February 4 – Epicurean Evening – Nassau Bay
More than 40 different restaurants gathered under the stars and spaceships at Space Center Houston, each offering wonderful delights varying from sushi to shrimp and grits. Displays were elegant, elaborate, some very unusual even to the point of including a live snake. The evening was filled with kids playing in the maze of the super sized, super fun Kids Space Place while parents sampled wonderful treats and bid on some very unique auction items. Kicking Back and Enjoying the Bay Area

Leopard spots, zebra stipes and exotic bird feathers were the focus at the Safari of Fashion Show hosted by the NASA, Clear Creek, Friendswood Rodeo subcommittee. Local celebrities donned clothes from bay area boutiques and stores and strutted down the catwalk. Dickinson Festival of Lights - Dickinson Texas
WOW! That was my first reaction. I planned to photograph this event this year but I went to the old location on hwy 3, it wasn’t there. It moved from that location in 2003 to Paul Hopkins Park on FM 517, and what a move! This was an idea hatched between a couple of neighbors (history) to an event of consisting of millions of lights and hundreds of Christmas displays. This is a great place to bring the family and truly is a Festival of Lights. Best of all it’s free but they do have a donation jug set up to help with expenses. more... |

December 12 - Clear Lake Christmas Boat Lane Parade – Clear Lake
Thousands of spectators lined the edges of Clear Lake to watch the 48th annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade. Both sail and motor boats floated past the judges’ stand in hopes of capturing the top prize.

December 12 – Clear Lake Christmas Boat Lane Parade – Clear Lake
Whether it’s really chilly or one of our balmy December days, the Clear Lake Christmas Boat Lane Parade is an event that brings out the holiday spirit in everyone. Starting in the Nassau Bay area these colorfully decorated boats make their way under the Kemah bridge and out to the bay. Hundreds of families pack up the kiddos and head out to their favorite spot to watch the passing of the boats. November 25 – The Miller Lite Bunch “Turkey Fry” – Pearland
The Miller Lite Bunch Cooking Team was founded more than 30 years ago by Dave Robertson and Rocky Mauldin. Along the way, a few of these fun loving folks started a group Turkey Fry. Now, years later, it has become a tradition where a community of people bring their turkeys to the experts to get them cooked for Thanksgiving. November 20 thru 22 - Christmas in Kemah – Kemah Lighthouse District
Santa came rolling in on a fire truck and kiddos, standing on the door steps, were cheering him as he walked into the room. Then Santa worked his magic and turned the twinkling lights on all the trees in the front of the Kemah Visitors Center. Beautiful Christmas magic! November 5 Thru 8 – Antiques By The Bay – Kemah
It was another beautiful weekend as folks strolled through the first annual Antiques By The Bay, in the Kemah Lighthouse District. Furniture, pottery, glassware, silver pieces, furs and antique linens were all on display ready to find a new home.

Artists working in every medium you can imagine gathered together for the Bay Area Arts Festival & Stages at The Arts Alliance Center of Clear Lake (TAACCL). Recovering from Ike, this event has expanded to fill the inside and outside of TAACCL. Beautiful jewelry, paper art and unique pottery pieces filled the spaces within the building. November 1 - Wings Over Houston Airshow - Clear Lake
The 2009 Wings Over Houston is proud to welcome back the US Navy Blue
Angels! An amazing demonstration of Naval aviators exhibiting
choreographed aerial skills. Tora, Tora, Tora; a favorite of war bird
fans will also be putting on a exhibition. And soaring out of the clouds
the RE/MAX® Skydiving Team will open the Airshow with their graceful and

Re/Max Ballunar Liftoff Festival – Nassau Bay
Not only is this an educational event it is totally fun and exciting.
Looking overhead you will see a sky filled with hot air balloons of
every color you can think of and there’s even one that looks like a cow.
It’s amazing to watch the pilots maneuver their balloons across the
fields, heading for the prized target zone. And when all the balloons
have come back down to earth the sky-divers take off. Listen in as Mike

October 6 - Wings Over
Houston Media Day – Clear Lake
Capt. A.J. High a B25 pilot in the Aleutian Islands and Col. Joe McPhail,
a member of the “Death Rattlers” a Marine Fighting squadron in 1945 are
both WWII Veterans and heroes. Both are a part of the Wings Over Houston
airshow coming up on October 31 and November 1. A special treat, this
year, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Wings will be the Blue

October 3 – Kemah Car Classic –
Kemah
Temperatures had dropped a few degrees and there was a gentle breeze
which made a great day for the Kemah Car Classic. We got out to this car
and art show, fairly early, to visit with our friends from the North
Galveston County Chamber of Commerce.

In observation of the 1 year anniversary of Hurrican Ike, The Arts
Alliance Center of Clear Lake (TAACCL) will be hosting a very special
invitational and juried art exhibit, Flotsam & Jetsam. Opening on August
20 and running through October 8 this exhibit will feature local artists
that were impacted by Ike and are now ready to express those feelings in

Chairman's Ball – Clear Lake
With shiny disco balls and retro dancing the Clear Lake Area Chamber of
Commerce (CLACC) celebrated the passing of the guard between Cathy
Turner, the 2008-2009 Chairman and Michael Divine, 2009-2010 Chairman.
It was a reflection of a year of challenges because of Ike and a look

Car Show & Coastal Starving Artist – Kemah
Once again, this year’s Classic Car festival will be held staged in the
parking lot of the Kemah Visitors Center located at the corner of 6th &

The first annual Havana Daydreamin’ event was held in the ballroom at
the Lakewood Yacht Club. Stepping back in time to a period of gambling,
excitement and wonderful music, the theme was 1950’s Cuba.

Redfish Raftup – Clear Lake
When the Star Gazer motored up to Redfish Island there were more than
100 boats anchored around the island. It didn’t take long before Kelly
McGuire and his band cranked up the volume and got the music going. This
is one of those unique concerts where the audience is either dancing on
the bows of their boats or floating around on the water enjoying the

Havana Daydreaming – Clear Lake
The Jeanette Williams Foundation is throwing one heck of a party, and
you are invited! 1950’s Cuba, before Castro, a time when ladies wore
colorful Latin dresses and men donned their best Guevara shirts for some
spicy Saturday night fun. A time when, Havana cigars were treasured and
the music was festive, fast and The Jeanette Williams Foundation will be
re-creating that wonderful and exciting era at the Lakewood Yacht Club.

September 1 – Celebrity
Celebration – Kemah
The NASA, Clear Creek, Friendswood Go Texan committee proudly hosted their first
event for the 2009-2010 season. The Celebrity Celebration honored the Trail
Bosses and Ranch Hands that have so generously support the committee and its
efforts to raise funds for bay area high school scholarships.
The theme of the evening was a celebration around the world. Committee members
acted as an ambassador to different countries. Listen in as Anita Fogtman tells Talk of the

September 6 & 7 – Redfish
Raftup – Clear Lake
One of the largest, in the water, boating events in our area is the
Redfish Raftup. If it isn’t the largest, it certainly is the most fun!
Each Labor Day Weekend, the Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) presents this
extremely popular concert on the water, featuring one of our favorite
bands, Kelly McGuire. Approximately 150– 200 boaters gather up around
Starfleet’s Star Gazer for this fun Labor Day celebration. This year the
Kelly McGuire Band will be out on the water from 12:30 – 2pm both
Sunday, September 6 and Monday, September 7. Listen in

Straight from the Texas Mariners Cruising Association (TMCA) wesite:
TMCA is a non-profit corporation formed in 1979 to promote cruising and
related activities. Cruises are organized throughout the year for many
destinations on Galveston Bay and Gulf Coast waters. Numerous social
events are also scheduled on a regular basis, ranging from informal dock
parties at local marinas to the Annual Commodore’s Ball. Listen in as

OPA! Wonderful Greek music, colorful dancing, food, friendly people and

great time? Hundreds of bay area folks came out, to Landolt Pavilion at
Clear Lake Park, to enjoy everything the Greek culture has to offer.
There were vendors selling hats, food items and jewelry. A children’s

and boats shows happens right here in the bay area, at Lakewood Yacht

Sitting outside, overlooking the budding grapevines, Eddie and I spent

26 – Saint John the Theologian Greek Festival – Clear Lake
Rich in sprit, excited to share their culture, traditions,
entertainment, food and of course their wines, our Greek friends will be
hosting the Clear Lake Greek Festival on April 24 – 26. The festival
will be held at the Landolt Pavilion in Clear Lake Park. We attended
their wine tasting event, at the Bakkus Tavern and Bar, as a sneak
preview of what we can expect at the festival. We got a little taste of
the wonderful foods, some wine, table dancing and did I mention the

thru 25 – Galveston County Fair & Rodeo – Santa Fe
The Galveston County Fair & Rodeo is everything you’d expect a county
fair to be and then some. We attended this event last year and had a
great time. Between the Seafood Cook Off and the BBQ Cook Off…Yummy!
Then there’s the great entertainment, the carnival rides, the rodeo
competitions, the livestock auction….it’s just 2 weeks of good ole Texas

Armand Bayou Nature Center – Pasadena
Eddie and I took a trip across the prairie and out on Armand Bayou to
get reacquainted with the Armand Bayou Nature Center. In the short
period of time that we were out there, we learned and saw so many
different examples of wildlife including a young alligator, about 4 foot

Crawfish Festival – Clear Lake
The Landolt Pavillion, out at Clear Lake Park, was filled with folks
enjoying some good old Cajun music and some spicy crawfish. Grandparents
and parents swirled around the floor with children while everyone was
enjoying the crawfish and all the trimmings. Friday night was just the
start of a fun filled weekend. Saturday would bring the Gumbo cookoff,
silent auction and even more crawfish. Listen in as Talk of

4 – Clear Lake Crawfish Festival – Clear Lake
Held at the Landolt Pavillion, in Clear Lake Park, the annual Clear Lake
Crawfish Festival will once again make up a fun weekend.
The fun starts on Friday night with the Thibodeaux Cajun Band and
Crawfish Races. And of course, there will be tons of boiled crawfish and

Hooters to Horns – Clear Lake
St. Patty’s Day and Hooters to Horns all rolled up into one. People
started arriving around 4pm to enjoy the wings and beer at Hooters.
Green hats, scarves, vests and even green hair could be seen all over
the ‘backyard’ of Hooters. About 500 hundred folks showed up for the bus
trip from Clear Lake to the rodeo. Listen in, on Talk of the Bay, as we get reactions from those that

March 10 -Sentinels of Freedom
Golf Tournament and Dinner – Clear Lake
South Shore Harbour Golf Course and Resort was the venue for the first
Sentinels of Freedom Golf Tournament and celebration dinner. This very
special fundraiser for severely wounded military personnel is led by
Deborah Bly and Gail Payne, of The Bly Team of realtors. A very
ambitious group of volunteers who have ensured that at least one more
wounded soldier will have the opportunity to rebuild his life. Listen in to Talk of the

Elvis and Texas Legends Tour – Clear Lake
The New Voice of Elvis and Texas Legends Tour came to Clear Lake on
Thursday, March 12. Jesse Aron, a tribute artist and headliner for the
show, was great. You could ‘hear and see’ Elvis in Jesse’s voice, his
facial expressions and body movements brought back memories of many

Yeeeeehawwwww and a great big Howdy! Yup, rodeo time is here and boy do
we have a fun night for you. On March 17, The NASA, Clear Creek,
Friendswood Rodeo committee will be hosting their annual bus trip to the
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. 500 folks will enjoy wings and beer at
Hooters, get on 10 buses and head out to the rodeo. Fun, Fun, Fun! It’s
the most fun you can have on a bus and still be legal. Listen in as

Golf Tournament – Clear Lake
We shall never leave you, we shall never forsake you. This is the
promise of the Sentinels of Freedom. The state of Texas has more than
1100 soldiers that are casualties of war. This is not a political
statement but a statement of fact. These soldiers are now facing a life
time of adjustments. The Sentinels of Freedom is an organization that is

Tasting - Kemah

For several weeks now, Eddie and I have been following the work of the Clear
Creek Environmental Foundation (CCEF).
We have watched them pull everything imaginable out of the waters in our bay
area. Golf carts, seafood storage units, cars, commercial fans, and building
materials from what used to be Maribelle’s and other establishments, in the

February 22 – An Evening with Elayne Boosler – Clear
Lake
The Arts Alliance Center of Clear Lake (TAACCL) came up with yet another
interesting evening for the bay area. Hosting an evening of dining under the
stars and entertainment by comedienne Elayne Boosler was the brainchild of Lisa
Hamilton and Dayna Steele. And what a great idea it was.

Mardi Gras and the Mystic Krewe
du Carnaval – Clear Lake
The Mystic Krewe du Carnaval is probably the newest krewe in the bay
area, but don’t let that fool you, they are steeped in the traditions of
a New Orleans. During their 2 years of existence this krewe has hosted
beautiful galas, honored their regal courts with entertainment to suit
the His Royal Highness and his Queen and participated in multiple parade
and social events. Lots of energy and lots of fun. Listen in as Kathleen

Mardi Gras and the Krewe du Lac
– Kemah
Krewe du Lac, the official krewe of Kemah, will be celebrating their 8th
year together. The goal of this krewe is to promote the cultural,
educational and traditional customs of Mardi Gras and to provide
information, guidance and activities to any individuals and groups
interested in the similar pursuit. Family oriented Krewe du Lac will
bring in the 2009 season in true Mardi Gras spirit.

For weeks now, Eddie and I have been tracking Rex Ward and the Clear

Kemah areas cleaning up after Hurricane Ike. We are trying our best to

February 5 – Epicurean Evening A Taste of Space – Clear
Lake
Okay, I admit it…we all ate too much but it was delicious! There were so many
restaurants with wonderful displays of the culinary delights and the music and
entertainment was great. Each booth entry competed for awards on presentation,
creativity and overall showmanship. I know that the judges had a tough time
selecting the winners.

January 10- Clear Creek
Environmental Foundation Cleanup – Seabrook
It was a windy morning and the cold front had just blown in, but the
group of kids from Sugar Creek Baptist Church kept working. Wearing blue
t-shirts, knee high waders, gloves and a smile these kids pulled, tugged
and wrestled with debris left behind by Ike. Pieces of gym equipment
buried under commercial air conditioner units, sheets of metal curled up
like a spring, huge pieces of unrecognizable debris all poking up out of
the water, these are some of the challenges facing Rex Ward, the Keeper
of the Creek, and the Clear Creek Environmental Foundation. listen in

January 29 - CCISD FFA Livestock Show and Auction –
Clear Lake
The 27th CCISD FFA Livestock Show & Auction was dedicated to Domenico “Nick”

Creek Cleanup – Clear Lake
Every year for 10 years, the Clear Creek Environmental Foundation spends
five weeks cleaning debris out of Clear Creek. This is debris that has
made is way down into the creek via the tributaries running throughout
the bay area. Rex Ward, is the founder of this organization and is ‘the
Keeper of the Creek’. This year Rex and the foundation have an
exceptional challenge in front of them. And they will spend the majority
of their time trying to clean up the debris thrown into other waterways

The bay area has several community theatres, they are all wonderful. I
love going to large theatres like the Alley but our community theatres
offer a cozy environment where you can enjoy local talent. Agatha
Christie mysteries are one of my favorites so I had to get over to the
Clear Creek Community Theatre to see And Then There Were None. A three
act play taking place in a living room of a house on Soldier Island, off
the coast of Devon, England. I was not disappointed. Listen in as

Epicurean Evening February 5,

Epicurean Evening is a chance to taste all of the wonderful foods
offered by restaurants and hotels in the bay area. YUMMY! It’s an

January 23 – Rodeo Fashion Show -Salute to the Military
– Clear Lake
Hosted by the NASA, Clear Creek, Friendswood Metro Go Texas Committee, this
year’s fashion show theme was A Salute to the Military. And Irene Pavig,
Committee Chair, made sure that the honors were paid. Gorgeous gowns and dresses
were sashayed down the runway in the true Lenny Matazewski style.

Livestock Show and Auction – Clear Lake
The week starts off with three full days of FFA students showing their
animals and plants. Everything from swine, turkeys, rabbits, cattle to
floriculture and horticulture will be brought before the judges. CCISD
is proud of its students. This is an opportunity to showcase the work
effort and commitment these kids have put into their projects. Listen in

Rodeo Fashion Show: A Salute to

For forty two years now, this fashion show has been one of the most
popular events in the bay area. Produced by Lenny Matazewski and hosted

event has sold out every year. That’s quite a full day, if you ask me.

47th Annual Boat Parade,
December13 – Clear Lake
A wonderful fireworks show announced the start of the Clear Lake
Christmas Boat Parade. In spite of the ravages of Ike, a windy night and
impending rain, the parade prevailed. Hundreds of folks lined up along
Upper Bay Rd in Nassau Bay to watch and enjoy each passing , boat.
Although the number of boats were certainly down from previous years,
these boats, their captains and crew were making a statement for one and
all to see; we shall prevail and we will enjoy the Christmas holiday!!. there's more... |

December 13 – Clear Lake
Christmas Boat Parade – Clear Lake
Starting with five boats, 46 years ago, Clear Lake has had a Christmas
Boat Parade every year. This year, in spite of Ike, the 47th Clear Lake
Christmas Boat Parade will once again make its way from Nassau Bay out
to the bay. It's been, and still is, a difficult time for our folks
around the lake so bringing some holiday cheer to the area is great.

November 13 – Cowboys and
Cowgirls Who Cook – Clear Lake
A rodeo event with an Island State of Mind, that’s the Cowboys and
Cowgirls Who Cook. Held once again at the Endeavour Marina, this event,
in spite of the bad weather, was a huge hit. With more than 45 chefs
presenting and serving their culinary delights and great sounds from
Kelly McGuire and his band the evening was great fun. Listen in as we

Gulf Coast Film Festival,
November 14 – Clear Lake
Starting out with a relaxing and very enjoyable mixer at the Villa
Capri, the evening of Gulf Coast Film Festival gave guests an
opportunity to mix and mingle with others passionate about the world of
film and video. It also gave folks a chance to speak with actress Erin
Gray. This lovely lady is best known for her role as Col. Wilma Derring
in the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century series, a few years ago. Listen

Bay Area Divers
Scuba Expo and Market, November 16 – Clear Lake
If you ever wanted to get a good deal on SCUBA equipment the Bay Area
Divers SCUBA Expo and Market was the place to be. Each year, vendors
come in from all around Texas to sell diving equipment. New, this year,
was the expo portion of the event. Several conservation groups hosted
lectures on their organization, informing and teaching visitors about
our bay area and some of the endangered species, like the Ridley

Small Works By Great Minds –
November 8 – Clear Lake
It was another great event and evening at The Arts Alliance Center of
Clear Lake (TAACCL). More than 100 pieces of art, donated by local
artists, were displayed on the walls and tables at TAACCL; each piece up
for auction. During this past week, visitors came by selecting their
favorite pieces and placing bids.

Bay Area Divers’ SCUBA Market

meets on the last Wednesday of each month, except in December, at the

Festival – November 14, 15 & 16 - Seabrook
The Gulf Coast Film and Video Festival has rescheduled for November
14-16. “This is Our Hollywood” is this year’s theme for the festival.
The celebrity guest is film, television and stage actress Erin Gray,
best known for her roles as Kate Summers in Silver Spoons and Colonel
Wilma Deering in the science fiction TV series, Buck Rogers in the 25th
Century. Erin will also be receiving the lifetime achievement award.

Eddie paid a visit to Lisa Hamilton, the Executive Director, of The Arts

of the art pieces that are up for auction. This is a week long auction
taking place at TAACCL, from October 30 and culminating in an evening of
fun on Saturday, November 8. Small pieces of original art, in a wide
variety of media, have been donated by Bay Area Houston artists to
TAACCL. Great entertainment, beautiful works of art and wonderful food;

Wings Over Houston, October 26
– Clear Lake
What a great event. Patriotic, family oriented, exciting, and filled
with the sights and sounds of WWII aircraft. The 24th Wings Over Houston
(WOH) started early in the day with the ReMax Sky Diving Team, lead by
Al Saylor, then the planes started flying. Everything from the F18
Hornet to the Oracle Challenger, re-enactments by Tora, Tora, Tora, to a

Shrimporee 2008, October 25,
Saturday – Clear Lake
It was a Chamber of Commerce day and hundreds of families and friends
got together to enjoy it, at the Space Center Rotary Club’s annual
Shrimporee. A lively auction called by Judge Louie Ditta, a silent
auction, great music and of course 1100 pounds of shrimp and BBQ were
all part of the fun.

Masked Magic Gala, October 25 –
Clear Lake
It was an evening filled with talent and entertainment. Minstrels,
Peter, Paul and Mary strolled around each table entertaining guests with
a wide variety of songs. Peter Wuenschel, the Executive Director of the
Communities in Schools (CIS), his brother Paul and his sister Mary make
up this talented musical trio.

Pasadena Rodeo and BBQ Cook
Off, October 23, Thursday – Pasadena
We went strolling through the Pasadena Fairgrounds and across an
interesting camp setup by the Texas Redneck Cook Off Team. From a
tricked out bus to oversized undies, handing out to dry, to a leopard
printed outhouse these folks were set to have a fun weekend. Listen in

The 24th annual Wings Over Houston Airshow will be held on the ground
and in the air above Ellington Field. Produced by the Commemorative Air
Force, this show of aerial skills and talents will feature the USAF
“Thunderbirds” demonstration team, Sean D. Tucker and Team Oracle, Julie
Clark’s Chevron Mentor T-34 along with many others. Listen in as Col.

Masked Magic Gala, October 25

Communities in Schools (CIS), is a year-round, in-school program that
uses a case management, multidisciplinary approach to help students. On
October 25, CIS will host their annual Masked Magic Gala. This is an
event for everyone. Superman; Peter, Paul and Mary, and the Pope all
attended last year.

Wonderful piano music played by young students, oils, watercolors,
glass, porcelain, clay, wood and sketches, all different mediums used to
express art. Bay area artists, of all ages, participated in this year’s
Bay Area Houston Arts Festival hosted by The Arts Alliance of Clear Lake
(TAACCL). The exhibits were both indoors and outdoors; hundreds of
people wondered around the festival, admiring, buying and enjoying.

Prairie Pandemonium - October
18, Saturday - Clear Lake
What a gorgeous day to be out and about; even more so when you’re
lending a helping hand to Mother Nature. The Armand Bayou Nature Center
hosted the Prairie Pandemonium day, a day to replenish some of the
tallgrass prairies at the nature center. Nature lovers showed up early
Saturday morning went out to plant more than 2000 individual native
grasses. So many folks turned out to help that the task was done hours

Just a Pretty Table – October 8

The Just a Pretty Table luncheon, hosted by the Bay Area Museum Guild
was held on Tuesday, October 7. Just a Pretty Table; a complete
understatement! In reality there were 20 absolutely gorgeous, creative,
‘gotta have tables’ filling the banquet room at Bay Oaks Country Club.
Each table had its own theme and the creators of these works of art
decorated to the max. Now in its 3rd year, this event was a complete

Collage of Recovery
Eddie and I have been so impressed with all of the help and recovery
efforts that are now going on. In League City, we stopped at the
Interfaith Caring Ministries Hurricane Relief Center. Here, some of
volunteers are sorting and stacking supplies that are being donated by
the community. Other volunteers are helping give out the supplies.
Clothing, new and used, canned goods and non-perishables are brought in
stocked and then handed out. It’s the cycle of caring and sharing.

The weather was perfect, the motorcycles were shiny and the girls
entering the bathing suit contest were beautiful. What more could you
ask for. Okay, I have to confess I’ve never judged a bathing suit
contest before and the only reason I got the job was because Eddie had

Ms. Lily’s Groove 2008
S. Denise McNeal is the author and the director of Ms. Lily’s Groove.
The play is about a middle aged married woman, living in a typical small
town and attending an average small Missionary Baptist church. Ms. Lily
is a Deaconess in her church and, in her spare time, a pimp. Listen in

members afterwards.

Lunar Rendezvous Coronation
Ball 2008
The 43rd Lunar Rendezvous Festival culminated with the 2008 Coronation
Ball held at the San Luis Convention Center in Galveston. Putting on the
Ritz, yes indeedy it was that. The ballroom was elegantly decorated in a

Ms. Lily’s Groove July 26 and
27 – Clear Lake
There’s a new theater group coming to town. Shabach Enterprise, in
conjunction with Watch My Groove Entertainment, presents the stage play
Ms. Lily’s Groove. It’s a story of a church lady who lives a double
life…as a madame. This play carries a PG-13 rating for adult content and
will make its bay area debut on July 26 at 6:30pm and July 27, at 4:00pm
at the beautiful Bayou Theater in Clear Lake. Listen in as Denise

Day Events - Clear Lake
The Houston Safe Boating Council and the Clear Lake Area Chamber of

Having worked well of 900 cases, the Texas EquuSearch (TES) crew may
have started off with horses and ground pounders but they are much more
now. Using ATVs, airplanes, helicopters, tracking dogs, boats, jet skis,
divers, infrared cameras and drone airplanes TES has greatly enhanced

Texas EquuSearch Fundraiser –
Saturday, July 19 - Dickinson
The Texas EquuSearch (TES) Mounted Search and Recovery Team was founded
in August of 2000. The mission was to provide Volunteer Horse Mounted
Search and Recovery for Lost and Missing persons. The team's efforts and
existence is dedicated to the memory of Laura Miller, a young woman
abducted and murdered in 1984. Laura was the daughter of Tim Miller, the

Geocaching – Clear Lake
Recently, Eddie and I met a family of Geocachers, Steve Berenzweig, who
works for NASA, and his two young children Sydney and Jacob. Now Steve
is really into this sport and has a streak going of more than 418 days,
straight, of looking for and finding caches. Come and join us as Steve
takes Eddie and me on our first cache hunt and tells Talk of the Bay some of the interesting things about this high tech scavenger hunt. |

at Club Classic
There's a new game in town and it's called Speed Networking.
It was served up by the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce. This is how it
works: Just like speed dating you get 4 minutes 1 on 1 with a fellow
Chamber member. You get 2 minutes to introduce yourself and your
business. Then you listen for 2 minutes as your peer does the same. What

4th of July
Fireworks – Clear Lake
After the 4th of July Parade in Galveston, we all headed over to the
Endeavour Marina to oooh and aaah over the fireworks show hosted by the
Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce (CLACC). The banquet table was set
and guests arrived with an array of pot luck dishes to share. Dave
Robertson of Musical Cheers entertained guests with a great mixture of
dance and patriotic music. Folks gathered outside, on the balcony, and
selected their favorite spots to watch the display of fireworks around

Lunar Rendezvous – June Events
– Clear Lake
June brings to the bay area four fun events, as part of the Lunar
Rendezvous Festival.
Starting the summer off, is the Family Fun Night at the Putt Putt Fun
House. Lazer Tag, Rock Climbing, Bumper Cars are just a few of the
activities that kids and adults alike can participate in. Cool! Listen

Kemah Classic Car Show – June
28, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm - Kemah
Live music, Door prizes and lots of goodies await car enthusiasts at the
Kemah Classic Car Show. Last year there were about 125 cars that were
shown. This year the North Galveston County Chamber of Commerce is
looking forward to hosting move than 150 entries. Everything from
classic to muscle cars will be stationed along the Kemah Boardwalk for

4th of July Celebration – Clear
Lake
Freedom, independence and honoring our heroes are all great reasons for
celebration. The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce hosts several
fundraisers throughout the year to raise the money needed to put on a
huge fireworks display. And this year is no different. Starting at
9:30pm, Friday, July 4, the sky will be lit up with beautiful color. And
just to make it even better there will be several other fireworks shows

Water Activities
Day Events - Clear Lake
The Houston Safe Boating Council and the Clear Lake Area Chamber of
Commerce, are once again hosting the 10th annual Water Activities Day
Events (W.A.D.E). The June program in currently I session but there will
be a second session on July 21 – 23. Sessions are held at the Clear Lake

Summer is here and that means water activities. The Houston Safe Boating
Council and the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting the
10th annual Water Activities Day Events (W.A.D.E). There will be two

23. Both sessions will be held at the Clear Lake Park on NASA Parkway.

The Good Skipper Gala, once again, was a beautiful evening. Hosted by
the Boys & Girls Harbor and chaired by Amy and Paul Dunphey, Kelly and

of Devereux party. Split between the Endeavour Marina and the Spirit of

Bay Day – May 17

Thousands of people will be attending the annual Bay Day Festival at the
Kemah Boardwalk on Saturday, May 17. Hosted by the Galveston Bay
Foundation, the mission of this festival is to educate people on the
importance of the bay, in our everyday life. They relay this message
through some very entertaining and interactive booths and some great

Disco Daze Casino Night – Clear
Lake
DJ Dave Robertson, of Musical Cheers, kept the disco music playing all
night. With Saturday Night Fever playing in the background, the Bay Oaks
Country Club was reliving the days of polyester leisure suites and
platform shoes.

Pasadena Strawberry Festival
As we walked into the Pasadena Convention Center we were greeted by the
aroma of strawberry shortcake, yup, more than 1400 square feet of
strawberry shortcake! Outside on the fairgrounds were the mud volleyball

Strawberry Festival – May 16 –
18, Friday – Sunday - Pasadena
Pasadena once held the title as the Strawberry Capitol of the South. Now
we can brag on having the largest strawberry cake in the world. On
Friday, May 16, at 5pm, the 2008 Strawberry Festival will officially
open for a weekend of live entertainment, mud volleyball championships,

Blessing of the Fleet, 40th Anniversay- Kemah
The 40th annual Blessing of the Fleet was held in Kemah, on Sunday May

Fleet – Sunday, May 4 – Clear Lake Area
The 40th annual Blessing of the Fleet will be held on Sunday, May 4.
Nearly 100 shrimp boats, fishing boats and pleasure boats will
gracefully float past the Kemah Boardwalk. As each vessel passes the
boat, captain and crew will be blessed by both a priest and a pastor for
a safe and successful season.

The 13th Annual Keels & Wheels Concours
d’ Elegance will be held at Lakewood Yacht Club, in Seabrook

The largest classic car and vintage wooden boat show in the United States, Keels & Wheels will feature more than

Galaxy of Stars Style Show - Clear Lake
About 75 models strutted down the catwalk at the NASA Hilton Hotel, on Friday
night. Everything from great shorts outfits to gorgeous evening gowns were shown
off under the bright lights. It was very obvious, that the models, primarily
high school juniors and seniors from the Clear Creek Independent School

it should be, the ladies were screaming for Elvis. Between Elvis, the
wine, the wonderful lunch, and the enthusiastic guests, I knew this was

Crawfish Festival – Clear Lake Area
3000 pounds of crawfish were purged, cooked, served and eaten at the
Clear Lake Crawfish Festival held at Landolt Pavilion this past weekend.
Some of the highlights, of this really fun event, included crawfish
races, a silent auction and of course crawfish eating contests. Our very
own Eddie Harper entered one heat and came in third but Eddie was the
only one to make a live crawfish stand on its head! Now that is true

and RodeoTM.

Trail Riders
Parade and Dinner Dance February 26 – Clear Lake Area
It was a bit windy and a little nippy as the Texas Independence
Trailriders made there way over the Gulf Freeway, on the Nasa Parkway
overpass.
These trail riders were coming in from Brazoria County and slowly making
their way to the Johnson Space Center. Once there, they circled around
the Gilruth Center and setup camp. Each year, it’s a sight to see, when
trail riders setup camp under the shadow of the space vehicles at NASA.

Independence Trail Riders Parade and Dinner Dance – Tuesday, Feb. 26.
Gilruth Center, JSC - Clear Lake Area
On Tuesday, February 26, 2008 the Texas Independence Trail Riders will
be making their grand entrance into the bay area. A parade down NASA
Parkway to the Johnson Space Center will mark their grand entrance.
About 200 – 250, trail riders will be heading towards the Gilruth

5K For Fireworks
Fun Run Sunday, Feb. 24 – Clear Lake Area
We arrived at the University of Houston at Clear Lake, early on Sunday
morning. The sun was trying hard to peek through the fog while runners
and walkers of all ages were preparing for the 5K For Fireworks Fun Run.
Hosted by the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, this along with
several other activities, is a fundraiser for the chamber’s fourth of

Cleanup – Feb. 23 – Clear Lake Area
The Clear Creek Environmental Foundation (CCEF) is instrumental in
bringing attention to past neglect and degradation of Clear Creek. And
attention they did bring. Hundreds of volunteers, dedicated to
preserving and restoring the natural habitat of Clear Creek, showed up
early Saturday morning at the League City Boat Ramp on Hwy. 270. Listen

The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is at it again!!
This time they are hosting the 5K “4” Fireworks Run/Walk to raise funds
for the beautiful ‘Salute to America’ 4th of July fireworks display that
happens over Clear Lake. A 30 year tradition, this fireworks display is
one of the pride and joys of the chamber. The money from multiple
fundraisers is pooled to pay for this beautiful display over the water.

Carnaval Royal Ball, January 12, 2008 – Clear Lake
Viva Las Vegas! The Royal Ball for the Mystic Krewe du Carnaval was held
on Saturday, January 12, 2008. Transforming the Johnny Arolfo Civic
Center into a Vegas like casino, this year’s King and Queen were
presented to the Krewe in a grand manner. Beads were tossed into the
crowds as court members, dressed in themed attire and head dress, danced

Boat Lane Parade – Clear Lake
The weather was great for the 46th annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade in
Clear Lake. Over 100 boats were decorated from stem to stern and port to

outlined in twinkling lights. More than 100,000 spectators lined the

was filled with great shopping, beautiful jewelry and furs, everything

46th Annual Clear Lake Area Christmas Boat Lane Parade Saturday, Dec.8, 2007
More than 100,000 people will make
their way to the shores of Clear Lake on Saturday, December 8. At 6:00pm,
approximately 150 boaters will traverse the Clear Lake channel, from the South Shore Harbour Marina and

For 5 years now, the Ladies Association of Lakewood Yacht Club have been
hosting and participating in a wonderful Christmas Market. Approximately
30 vendors will display their Christmas gift ideas, in the ballroom of
the Lakewood Yacht Club. So if you’re looking for some Christmas
decorations, gifts, holiday ideas or some yummy food and wine baskets be

Christmas in Kemah – November 17, 18 & 23- 25, 2007
Be sure to head down
to Kemah, on November 17, 18 or on the Thanksgiving weekend. Santa
will be visiting the Lighthouse District and amazingly enough there will

Hart Fest – Fun for the entire
family – Saturday, November 17, 2007
Tragically, on September 22, 2007, Brandon Hart, the General Manager of
Top Water Grill in San Leon lost his life in a motorcycle accident. Also
severely injured in the accident was Brandon’s wife Jacqueline. The
Hart’s have 6 children that are now trying to cope with this tragedy, in
their lives. Listen in as Ginny Ward, a
close friend of the Hart family, tells Talk of the Bay, what the
festival is about and how you can help and have a day of family fun too. |

Cowgirls Who Cook V – Thursday, November 8, 2007
An Island State of Mind filled the Endeavour Marina, on Thursday,
November 8. The Nasa Go Texan Committee, once again hosted an extremely
successful culinary event. With Kelly McGuire and his band playing a
variety of their tunes, more than 300 guests tasted some mighty fine

Halls – 23rd Annual Christmas Market
November 9 & 10, 2007
23 years ago, this event started in the kitchens of 6 industrious
Seabrook ladies. Setting up this tiny market in their own homes to sell
their jams, jellies and artwork, these ladies knew they had a good thing

Casino Night at the Bay Oaks Country Club – November 13, 2007
The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce transformed the Bay Oaks Country
Club into a night of Las Vegas excitement. Cards were dealt, dice were
thrown and the roulette wheel was spinning all night. The gaming tables

Ballunar Liftoff – From the Air November 2-4, 2007
The RE/MAX Ballunar Liftoff was 3 days of aviation excitement. More than
10,000 people came out to enjoy live entertainment, hot air balloon
races, beautiful balloon glows, shooting rockets and exciting skydiving
exhibitions.
The excitement started very early Friday morning. Hailing from Austin,
the colorful, Texas Twist, piloted by Sam Edwards was one of more than

The final balloon race, for the 2007 RE/MAX Ballunar Liftoff, started
Sunday morning off with lots of excitement. Al Saylor, Captain of the
RE/MAX skydiving team explains how the scoring works for the
balloonists. Tom Banaitis, of Freedom Boat Club, along with Stephanie
Rice, of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce (CLACC), describe what
the race was like from within the target zone. And Al explains what

34th Annual Shrimporee
Festival Saturday, October 27, 2007
It was an absolutely beautiful day out
at Clear Lake Park. And once again, the Space Center Rotary
Club hosted the event. Hundreds of families came through to
enjoy the fun, games, auctions and of course the food. 2000
pounds of shrimp were boiled in a ‘cauldron’ style tub, briskets by
the truck load and sides of corn on the cob and baked beans were

Harvest Moon Regatta, October 25 – 28, 2007
At 2:00 PM on Thursday
October 25, approximately 260 yachts circled near the Flagship Pier, all
waiting for the start of the Harvest Moon Regatta, 2007.
Hosted by the Lakewood Yacht Club, this nautical race from Galveston Bay
to Port Aransas, is very likely the most popular sailboat race in the
bay area. Racing throughout the night, boats started arriving in
