Year Round - Beautiful Tree Carvings – Galveston
On September 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike hit the island of Galveston. People lost their homes and businesses, buildings were destroyed and trees were uprooted; the island was flooded from the salty storm surge. Many of the beautiful trees that lined the streets of Galveston were up rooted while others left standing soon died. No doubt, it was a sad sight to see. And then a silver lining; from the stumps of once beautiful tall oak trees
came works of art. Earl Jones, Dale Lewis and Jim Phillips, with the help of Galveston resident Donna Liebert, came to Galveston and worked their magic carving unique statues and sculptures throughout the city.
Listen in as Talk of the Bay visits with Jim Phillips, our friend and a wonderful artist. You can contact Jim at 713-724-9515 or visit www.Inshoresculpture.com.
We hope you enjoy our photos and video of these beautiful pieces of wood carvings.
Listed below are the addresses where you can find these wonderful pieces of art. Some of these pieces were done as gifts to the people of Galveston and some were privately commissioned, either way they are there for you to enjoy. Most are easily seen from the street but there are a few located inside people’s yards and gardens, there are usually signs that will let you know if it’s okay to enter their property.
