Recently my son-in-law, Jim Erdman, introduced me to a sport call Geocaching.
After listening to his explanation, I became very curious especially since I
have no sense of direction at all.
Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for GPS users. Participating in a
cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and
capability of a GPS unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and
organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these
caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find
the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of
rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try
to leave something, of like value, for the cache.
My take is that geocaching is an eScavenger Hunt, basically a high tech treasure
hunt.
Listen in as Jason McGrew, of the Houston Geocaching Society, tells Talk of the
Bay all about this outdoor activitiy that you can participate in here in the bay
area or across the world. You can participate alone, with friends or family or
you can attend geocaching events. Anyway you try it, it’s pretty cool!
