April 9 thru April 17 – Galveston County Fair & Rodeo – Hitchcock
This wonderful Texas tradition started in 1938. In 1980 the fair outgrew its original grounds and moved to Jack Brooks Park in Hitchcock. Today, they fair continues to grow in attendance and activities.
Starting off the first weekend is the Seafood Cook-off. Teams from all around the area gather up their best recipes and spices to compete for the grand prize. Friday, April 9 is the preliminary competition. Saturday we roll into the finals with the awards being claimed that evening.
The second weekend, April 15 thru April 17, brings out the BBQ & Chili Cook-off teams. Hundreds of teams haul in huge tents, grills, and fully facilitated campsites preparing for this fierce competition.
Both of these competitions bring out the very best cooks and they fix grilled and boiled shrimp, fish to seafood rice, chili and everything BBQ. YUUMMYYY.
And all the while these grillin’ gurus are in heavy competition there is live entertainment, carnival rides, livestock auctions and lots of kiddie things happening each day for the duration of the fair.
Headliners for the live entertainment tent include Stoney LaRue and the Kyle Bennett Band.
