Mardi Gras 2009 – Friday Night Den Parties –
Galveston
It’s was the night before the official opening day parade. The Krewes have
crowned their Kings and Queens, the royal courts have been announced, beautiful
ball gowns and costumes have been worn to the coronation balls and the official
poster of Mardi Gras 2009 has been unveiled to the public….so what’s next?
P-A-R-T-Y!! Yup, the official time to party has BEGUN! We took a peek, at 3 den
parties, just to get a flavor of what our Krewes were up to.
Our first stop was with the Krewe Babalu. Music playing, food and drink in
abundance, beads everywhere and the wonderful floats all decorated and looking
like they are ready to be shown off. Angela Chapman, Barbara Pitre and Gladden
Walters will lead this krewe into a full steam ahead party mode.
Next, we went to Fishtales, off of the seawall, to celebrate with the Krewe of
Gambrinus. With their big parade coming up on Saturday night, George Black and
his Krewe of Brew were having a grand time prepping for their ‘Light up the
Night’ grand parade. Sharing in the celebration, with the Krewe of Gambrinus,
were the fun loving members of the Mystic Krewe du Carnaval, from the Clear Lake
area. A fairly new krewe, these folks will be participating in the Gambrinus
parade on Saturday too…and are they in for a treat! Led by Captain Kathleen
Courville, you can spot this krewe by their gorgeous headdresses.
Saving the biggest party for last, the Mystic Krewe of Aquarius Barn Bash, we
continued our adventure with Johnny Lidstone and his krewe members. As is the
tradition, this krewe will be partying late into the night, then up bright and
early getting their floats out to the staging area for their opening day parade.
Not to be left out was Michael Hightower, of the Krewe du Varoom. Michael, and
his bike riders, will lead the Fire Truck parade on Saturday afternoon. And of
course, if there’s a party going on, you will always find the fun loving Krewe
du Lac. Annabelle Ruch, ‘Prime Minister’ of the krewe, keeps her krewe in the
fun on land and on the water.
Listen in, as Talk of the Bay, captures the revelry, fun, and party sounds of
the Friday Night Den Parties.
Thanks for the great fun, everyone! We love our krewes of the bay area.
