February 24 – Fat Tuesday Celebration – Galveston

We started off at Santa Fe and 25th streets, the staging area for the Fat Tuesday parade. So many of the krewe participate in this parade, the last hoopla for the season. The parade started at 6:30, traveling down 25th to Postoffice. Oh my gosh! Postoffice street was absolutely packed. I was shocked. As we made our way down the route and turned onto the Strand it was like looking at a sea of people. Hands, fingers, faces and smiles all

mixed together.

We rode with Rick Francis on the Gulf Copper float. What a great time and what a great vantage point to see all the people enjoying the parade. Mardi Gras at its finest. Many thanks to Rick and his gang, this is our second time to ride on the Gulf Copper float…always a great fun time….the beads were flying.

Listen in to Talk of the Bay as we stroll through the staging area for the Fat Tuesday parade.

There were several parties after the parade and of course we made our way to a couple of them. The first was the party hosted by Johnny Lidstone and the Mystic Krewe of Aquarius. Last I saw Johnny, he was dancing the night away. Great party!

Then we were off to the public party hosted by the folks of Krewe Babalu…their party was at Yaga’s on the Strand. Needless to say it was packed. Lots of people, lots of dancing and definitely a great time. Many kudos to Jim Harrison and Krewe Babalu. check out the photos...
