September 5 – Redfish Raftup – Redfish Island in Galveston Bay
Calling all boaters and friends of boaters! Gather up and tie up for 6ht annual Redfish Raftup on the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, September 5. Paddle up, float up, motor up or sail up, this concert on the water will be the place to celebrate the holiday weekend. Benefitting the Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) there will be live entertainment happening throughout the day.

The Texas Mariners Cruising Association (TMCA) – Galveston Bay Area
Founded in 1979 the purpose of TMCA is to have fun on land and water. They accomplish this by promoting and hosting cruising, throughout the year, to destinations on Galveston Bay and along the Gulf Coast Waters. Organized cruises may range anywhere from a day cruise, to a weekend trip or up to two weeks in Mexico. September 17 thru 19 - Gulf Coast Film & Video Festival – Bay Area
Lights! Camera! Action! - The Gulf Coast Film & Video Festival will be September 17, 18, 19, 2010. The festival will have events all around Clear Lake, including Kemah, Nassau Bay, Seabrook and League City. This film festival was established 10 years ago and has gained international recognition in the Independent Film Community. September 23 - 26 South West International Boat Show – League City
The South Shore Harbour Marina once again plays host to the largest and most exciting in-water boat show to come to Houston and the Lone Star State – the South West International Boat Show. Also, luxury autos and custom motorcycles will be exhibited alongside a wide variety of products and services. Listen in to Talk of the Bay, as we visit with Peter Bryant, President of the Southwest International Boat Show. |

October 1 thru 9 – Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo – Pasadena
The Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo consists of dozens of committees and more than 1500 volunteers, all working towards the same goal; that goal is to achieve success through student education. Started in the late 1940’s this organization has successfully hosted the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo and achieved their goal for more than 60 years. August 30 – Celebrity Celebration – Kemah
It was Oscar nights in Kemah, winning films like Saving Private Ryan, 101 Dalmatians, Scarface and The Wizard of Oz along with many others were all represented at the Celebrity Celebration hosted by the NASA, Clear Creek, Friendswood Go Texan subcommittee. Cruella de Vil, Dorothy and her magical red shoes and the Good Witch of the North enjoyed this themed evening with the characters from the Field of Dreams and Patton. Year Round - Beautiful Tree Carvings – Galveston
On September 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike hit the island of Galveston. People lost their homes and businesses, buildings were destroyed and trees were uprooted; the island was flooded from the salty storm surge. Many of the beautiful trees that lined the streets of Galveston were up rooted while others left standing soon died. Listen in as Talk of the Bay visits with Jim Phillips, our friend and a wonderful artist. |

August 21 - Soap Opera Drama – San Leon
Saturday, Eddie and I were invited over to Sue and Gene Geiger’s home to visit with friends and talk with their son Adam Mayfield, aka Scott Chandler of the very popular soap opera All My Children. Adam attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston and graduated in 2000 with a BFA in Acting from the Depaul Theatre School. August 17 – Kick Off By The Creek – League City
Summer is coming to a close and the 2010–2011 school year is just around the corner. With this in mind, the 2nd annual Kick Off By The Creek, hosted by the League City Chamber of Commerce, was celebrated in the very impress, brand new Education Village. It was a celebration of the opening of this impressive facility, the CCISD and DISD students and faculty and of course the upcoming football season. Listen in with the Talk of the Bay... |

August 13 – Kemah Kasuals Auction & Style Show - Kemah
Unique items including fishing and hunting trips, wine tastings, and original art were all offered up for auction at the Kemah Kasuals Auction & Style Show. Mayor Matt Wiggins, entertained guests while coxing higher bids, raising money for the upcoming weekend in November when Kemah will play host to wounded warriors. Wednesday Night Sailboat Races on Clear Lake
Ahoy there, looking for something to do Wednesday evenings? Try checking out the Wednesday Night Sailboat Racing. Each week, for more than 40 years now, sailors have been racing around Clear Lake and for the last 15 years Buddy Brown has been at the helm, organizing these races.
Each week, anywhere from forty to sixty boats, some hoisting colorful spinnakers, participate. Listen in as Buddy Brown tells Talk of the Bay about how they prepare for the weekly sailboat races. |

Year Round - The Boat Club – Bay Area
The BOAT CLUB is a non-profit organization devoted to boating safety while having a lot of fun. And these members certainly know how to play hard! Poker Runs, Scavenger Hunts and Raftup Parties are just the beginning of their social activities. Friendly, fun loving, these folks know how to enjoy and care for our bay waters. July 29 – Men Who Cook – League City
The 8th annual Men Who Cook was a huge success. Changing things up this year, the organizing committee lead by Chairperson, Robin Stowe and Co-Chairperson Laverne Williams came up with a 1950’s theme. The Crystal Ballroom at the South Shore Harbour Resort was transformed into a room of soda jerks, beehive hair-dos, poodles skirts, bobby socks and tennis shoes.
