Mayor’s Report – League City
Hello Everyone,
Council was called to order at 6:02 pm, with Councilman Baron absent.
Pastor Jessie McMillan of the Bay Area Community Church gave the invocation.
PROCLAMATIONS. I was really proud to make a presentation of "The League City Environmental Hall of Fame Award" for the "Lean. Clean. Green" initiative taken by the City in all of our publications, the website, etc. Members of the Lean, Clean Green Team named were Mark Stelly, Anthony Addison, Kristi Wyatt, Shaun Hardy, Heather McKnight, Nancy Massey, Mike Tubbs, Jaree Hefner, Mike Lee and Mick Phalin.
CITIZENS REQUEST FOR HEARING BEFORE COUNCIL A citizen spoke about the noise ordinance, and others stressed the importance in the Clear Lake Tri Athlete Bike Race that will be coming through the town soon.
All CONSENT AGENDA items passed 6-0, without discussion.
OLD BUSINESS. Council voted 5-1 to postpone voting on the Gun Range Zoning discussion of the gun range, in order to be sure that all the possible solutions are considered. This zoning change request is important because it seems to be a line of demarcation between residential and Commercial zoning. We must respect the applicant's wishes, while trying to follow the zoning laws. The issue will be on the agenda again on the 10th of August. The vote was 5-1, with Councilman Paulissen voting against.
NEW BUSINESS. Council voted 6-0 to grant the permit for the Clear Lake Triathlon.
Council also passed a resolution to join in a coalition of cities to oppose a proposed rate increase by CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric that would cover the cost of installing an Advanced Meter System By Texas New Mexico Power, and restructure other rates.
EXECUTIVE SESSION. Council retired to Executive Session to be briefed by the City Attorney regarding two current litigation issues. When they returned, no action was taken.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Everyone, if the mosquitoes are about to carry you away, like they are the rest of us, please call the Galveston County Mosquito Control at 281-534-2727 or 1-800-842-5622. They are most co-operative and will get to your neighborhood as soon as they can.
We are pleased that the Clear Creek Independent School District Board voted to reinstate the bus routes for Ross Elementary--that's democracy in action!
Well, summer is flying by, so be sure to have all the fun you can in the next month....because school will be back in session about that time.
Be safe!
Toni Randall
