Robinson Science Teacher Best In The State
Leda Smith, a fifth grade science teacher at Robinson Elementary School in Seabrook, is celebrating an awesome 2009 – 2010 school year. She received the Statewide Elementary Leadership Award from HEB, was recognized by the Clear Creek ISD Board of Trustees for that honor and on a personal note completed her Masters in Education Administration and graduated with a 4.0 GPA from Lamar University on Saturday, May 15, 2010.
Leda Smith has taught for 16 years and describes her motivation as “the satisfaction of seeing those students return to me year after year, telling me fifth grade was their favorite year.” Smith is one of only two teachers in the state to snag a leadership award.
The HEB Excellence in Education Awards were distributed statewide. An estimated $380,000 in prizes was given to 1,200 educators. “Everyone's Aunt Sally has an opinion about how public schools can be run better,” said Charles Butt, H-E-B Chairman and CEO. “But the reality is that the only thing that really counts is the relationship between the teachers and the students. Everything else should be designed to support that.”
