Mayor’s Report – League City

Hello Everyone,
Council was called to order at 6pm, with all Councilmen present. Paul Melinder of Dominion Church gave the invocation.

Council unanimously passed a resolution to endorse an appointment of one new member to the Galveston County Board of Health, Rob Heifner of Mainland Medical Center, and reappointments for John Konikowski, MD,  representing the Galveston County Medical Society; Steven Leach, CRNA, representing the City; Bernard Milstein, MD, Citizen at Large; and Walter Treybig, III, a veterinarian; with terms to expire April 30, 2012.

There were no PUBLIC HEARINGS.

In CITIZENS REQUEST FOR HEARING BEFORE COUNCIL,  Representatives of MUD 6, with 873 homes in the Landing, requested help in working to dissolve some of the MUDS in our city. Other citizens spoke for Glen Cove, the Gun Range zoning issue, and Whispering Lakes developer problems.

In COUNCIL MEMBERS COMMENTS, it was announced that the Library’s "Summer Express” project has started. Go by, or call, our city library, or check the City website www.leaguecity.com  for more details and to sign up. It was also noted that our Council is considering all the options for the best solution for the citizens in Bay Colony, regarding the new apartment issue. Recognition of locally grown produce, grown by John Daro (one of of the original Italian immigrant families.) We were reminded to consider electronic billing for our water bills, to save the City postage costs. We were also reminded of a public meeting to discuss the FM 518 bypass project; and that children are out of school for the summer and that care should be taken while driving, etc.

In REPORTS FROM STAFF MEMBERS, Emergency Management Coordinator Dena Mahan reminded us of the start of Hurricane season and gave us 3 tips: insure your property, leave when the mayor calls for an evacuation; and Dial 211 and register for evacuation notification and assistance if you are going to need it, ahead of time. She also stated that there are several ways to keep in touch with the city, as we have are on Facebook, Cannel 16, Twitter and, of course. the city web site, for announcements.

The CONSENT AGENDA items were all passed 7-0.

In NEW BUSINESS, Council voted 6-1 to annex the eastern area south of FM 518 up to Texas 146. Council approved funding to purchase and install the Boundless playground by a vote of 5-2, with Councilman Paulissen and Councilwoman Dawson voting no. Council also unanimously agreed to the revision of a section of the employee training manual.

Item 14 was TABLED ITEMS SUBJECT TO RECALL. The item about rezoning the Clear Creek Gun Range property was discussed at length, and Council passed it on the 1st reading 6-1, with Councilman Baron voting no.
ITEMS ADDED AFTER ELECTRONIC AGENDA COMPLETED. Council voted unanimously to accept real property from Mud 6, for the creation of a retention pond in the Landing.  This should be the solution to their flooding problems.

ACTION ITEM FROM EXECUTIVE SESSION. When Council reconvened after Executive Session, they took no action.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:32 pm.

With summer here, hopefully you can just enjoy more time with the family, with a lot less deadlines and  pressures.
