Jeanette Williams Foundation Restocks UTMB Playroom
Dianne Troop, President of the Jeanette Williams Foundation for Children’s Cancer Research along with board members Mary Ellen Arledge and Bernie Anderson delivered armloads of toys to the children's ward at University of Texas Medical Branch yesterday. The three brought an assortment of toys, books and games for the children in the cancer unit.
"UTMB has not been able to restock the playroom since Hurricane Ike," Diane Troop said. "We were delighted to be able to bring as much as we could to give the children something to play with and occupy their time while they are at the hospital receiving treatment."
The hospital is still in need of used items such as Playstations, Wii and Xbox systems and games for the older children undergoing treatment in the unit. Those wishing to donate should contact Child Life Specialist for UTMB, Kristen Gerhard at (409) 772-3424. Ms. Gerhard maintains the playroom. Her email address is klgerhar@UTMB.EDU.
The Jeanette Williams Foundation for Children’s Cancer Research sends children from the cancer unit at UTMB to summer camp each year. This year, JWF will send 30 children to a camp put on by the Rainbow Connection near Brenham.
