Mayor’s Report – League City

Hello Everyone,
The last Council meeting with the current council members was called to order at 6pm, with all members present. The chamber was also packed with spectators.

The invocation was made by Rev. Dr. Tom Day of St. Christopher Episcopal Church.

A proclamation was made to the Butler Longhorn Museum naming May 22nd as "Butler Longhorn Museum Day", for the "Texas Gathering and Wild West Show" scheduled that day, as a fundraiser. Five members of the Butler were there to accept the proclamation.

Another proclamation on the agenda, proposed by Councilman Nelson, was tabled with a motion by Councilman Phalin, seconded by Councilman Paulissen. The motion passed 4-1, with two abstentions. Councilman Nelson voted no, with Baron and Sanborn abstaining.

Councilman Nelson left the meeting.

A detailed public hearing was held for parties requesting a Special Use Permit for the installation of a CO2 pipeline on the west side of town. The matter is complicated by the fact that it must go around the Duncan Tract and must at some point be about 6 feet deeper to allow streets, etc., to be built above it. Development of the Tract is not planned for some time, so some good estimating must be done for them to proceed.  Council passed the issue 6-0, on first and final, with conditions proposed by the Planning and Zoning Board.

In Citizens Request for Hearing Before Council, several citizens spoke about the route of the proposed 518 bypass and the new wrecker ordinance on the agenda. Bill Hines, newly elected to Mud 6 told Council about proposed new shops and restaurants that will be built at the intersection of the Landing Blvd. and Hwy 518, promising everyone we would be hearing more later.

In Council Members Comments, recognition was made of Joanna Sharp as the newly elected member of Council who will be sworn in on May 18th. Councilmen Baron and Phalin commented about the small number of registered voters who vote each year.

In my comments I expressed regret that I had not been able to attend the birthday salute made for Mary Snow's 89th birthday last week by the Senior Citizens. Hope it was a good one, Mary. Again Happy Birthday!

There were no staff member reports.

All items on the Consent Agenda were passed 6-0.

The only item in New Business Council approved the authorizing the Mayor's execution of Employment Agreement between the City of League City and S. Marcus Jahns.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:01 pm.

With school almost out, parents should check out the many summer programs offerred by our City at leaguecity.com

Be safe and have fun.
