Fundraiser Equals More Happy Campers
The Jeanette Williams Foundation for Children’s Cancer Research recently hosted their 3rd Annual “Champagne Wishes & Caviar Dreams” charity dinner cruise aboard the “Big White Boat” of FantaSea Yacht Charters. A portion of the proceeds will be used to send 30 children from UTMB in Galveston’s “Rainbow Connection” to Camp for All located in the Brenham area.
The Rainbow Connection runs a weeklong summer camp for children with cancer and blood disorders, and their siblings. The organization subsidizes the cost of camp so that financial burdens never prevent a family from taking part in this special experience.
“Last year, the Jeanette Williams Foundation was able to send 20 children with cancer to camp,” said Diane Troop, founder and president of The Jeanette Williams Foundation. “This year we are sending 30 campers thanks to such generous support.”
Attending Camp for All helps young people confronting these life-threatening illnesses rediscover what it feels like to be a normal kid. Children ages six to 15 enjoy a fun filled week each summer at the facilities in Burton, Texas. Surgical scars and bald heads take a back seat to such traditional summer camp activities as swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, sports, and arts and crafts. At camp, fears are overcome, self-esteem and confidence are restored, memories are shared and lifelong friendships are created.
The goal and purpose of the Jeanette Williams Foundation is to raise funds that go toward children's cancer research. This disease takes too many lives, especially the lives of children.
