February 4 - Mardi Gras Poster for 2009 – Galveston
The unveiling of the official 2009 Mardi Gras poster, was held at the San Louis
hotel in Galveston. The 3rd floor ballroom was filled with Purple, Green, Gold
and lots of laughter.
This year, Mardi Gras organizers decided that the krewe members should select
the official poster. Votes were tallied and the winner for 2009 was a poster
depicting a lady rising out of the waters with beads dangling her raised hand;
symbolizing Galveston’s rise out of the waters brought on by Hurricane Ike.
And, as is the tradition, each krewe unveiled their krewe’s poster for the
season. There was a wide variety of art work, from the Krewe of Varoom’s lady on
a motorcycle (Eddie really liked that one) to the comic book hero poster
representing the Fireman’s Children’s Parade.
