Mardi Gras 2009 – Aquarius Parade – Galveston
There can only be one ‘first’ parade and the Mystic Krewe of Aquarius continues
the tradition of hosting the opening parade on the opening day of Mardi Gras.
Johnny Lidstone and his krewe get things rolling early Saturday morning with
about 80 units participating in the parade. One of the longer parades; this
parade travels about 45 blocks down the seawall. Families line up on both sides
of the roade; in fact they camp out, setup BBQ pits and cook all sorts of yummy
foods while waiting for the parade to come by. Some of these folks have been
coming out to this opening parade for decades; obviously a tradition that even a
hurricane cannot stop. Way to go Galveston!!
