Dickinson Festival of Lights Dickinson Texas
WOW! That was my first reaction. I planned to photograph this event this year but I went to the old location on hwy 3, it wasn’t there. It moved from that location in 2003 to Paul Hopkins Park on FM 517, and what a move! This was an idea hatched between a couple of neighbors (history) to an event of consisting of millions of lights and hundreds of Christmas displays. This is a great place to bring the family and truly is a Festival of Lights. Best of all it’s free but they do have a donation jug set up to help with expenses. There’s hot cocoa, hot dogs, cookies, Christmas music, and Santa Clause. There’s a lot of other stuff going on there, so be sure to check out their website www.dickinsonfestivaloflights.org . Check out the photos but you have to be there to truly experience it.
You know… this could even be a great setting for a marriage proposal…it happened while I was there and here's the story...
Lauren Ginn and Emmitt Batey
have been together for 3 1/2 years and were high school sweethearts and have
been inseparable since then. Emmitt and Lauren actually grew up together in
Dickinson and played soccer together when they were 4. (our mothers were the
coaches)
So
our families have known each other for a long time. Emmitt proposed to Lauren at
the festival of lights in Dickinson Tx. He told Lauren he was going to his ranch
the day before and wouldn't be back till the next week which she was very
irritated about!! Lauren spent the day of the proposal with his sister Amanda
shopping and spending time with her new baby Brayden! Lauren was told that she
was going to take Brayden to get pictures with "Santa." When Lauren, Amanda, and
Brayden get to Santa, he asked her what she wanted for Christmas she said "I am
not sure". Then Santa said, "Well this year you have been very good and I had to
go to the North Pole to get your present." He then walked Lauren to this big
present box and Emmitt pops out and gets down on one knee and asked, "Lauren,
will you marry me." All of their family and friends were there hiding behind a
building until he proposed. Lauren had no clue he was proposing to her that
night so she was in complete shock, but, of course said Yes!!

Good Luck Guys!
