Extreme Makeover: Home Edition – The Door Knock & Braveheart Walk - Kemah
Congratulations to the Beach family getting brand new home! Ty Pennington and the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition television crew paid an unexpected visit to Larry and Melissa Beach and their 13 children this morning as they pulled into their driveway at 1013 Delesandri Lane in Kemah (Galveston, County) TX to deliver the exciting news. The excitement of the family, all 15 of them was fun to watch. Talking casually with Ty, Melissa Beach explained how they are blessed each time they bring a child into their home.
Melissa and Larry have four biological children and nine adopted children. They include Chris (23,), Michael (21), Jose (20), Mikala (18), Paul (14), Faith (13), Hope (9), Justin (8), Jacob (4), Grace (4), Jeremiah (23 months), Mercy (22 months) and Cody (19) currently serving in the Marine Corps in Afghanistan. During the last 12 years, the Beachs have fostered approximately 85 children, but decided to start adopting after seeing that so many were not being placed in homes. Due to water damage from Hurricane Ike, the Beach family home is unlivable and they are residing in a travel trailer on their property. Therefore, they have been unable to adopt additional children. But all that is about to change!!
Later in the day hundreds of people in bright blue T-shirts braved the cold temperature and winds and marched up Delesandri Lane chanting “Build that house!” They were taking part in the “Braveheart Walk,” a pep-rally ritual that begins every building project on the popular ABC television show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The walk is inspired by the movie Braveheart, from a scene where Celtic people walk over a hill, weapons in hand, to defeat the English oppressing their village. These are some of the volunteers getting ready to build a new house for the Beach family.
This home will be finished in 106 hours by a team of vendors and volunteers lead by Blu Shields Construction, and will be designed to fit the needs of the Beach family who take in handicapped and terminally ill children that other adoption agencies are not able to place. The Beach family was ecstatic to learn that they were the recipients of a brand new home to be completed and move–in ready in seven days. They are now on their way to Disney World.

About Blu Shields Construction and Energy Solution Homes: Blu Shields Construction (Blu Shields, President) is a division of Energy Solution Homes (Patrick Henderson, CEO) of Texas City, TX. It is their vision to change the philosophy of custom homebuilding. They are the only builders in this part of the country building high energy efficient homes (without solar or wind generated power) that produce very low electric bills. Their homes are built within 30 to 45 days, below the average construction cost. Their real challenge is to unite all builders as one, while bringing together all county and city emergency management teams so that communities can be rebuilt, not only in coastal regions but throughout the entire United States.
