October 21 - Harvest Moon Regatta Schedule – Gulf of Mexico
Lakewood Yacht Club Harvest Moon Regatta Chair Andrea Todara has announced the schedule of dates regarding the 24th Annual Harvest Moon Regatta which is slated to be raced in October “under the harvest moon” from Galveston to Port Aransas, TX.
“We wanted racers to get these dates on their calendars as soon as possible in order to schedule vacations and make all the necessary arrangements to enjoy this popular regatta,” related Todaro. “On Line entry forms will be available on July 15; the Captains Round Table Safety Day is Sat., Sept. 11; the Skippers’ Meeting is Fri., Oct. 15; and the race start is 2 pm on Thurs., Oct. 21 in the Gulf of Mexico.”
The website for the entry forms where racers can register on line after July 15 is: www.harvestmoonregatta.com The overnight race covers about 150 nautical miles across the Gulf of Mexico and is the longest off-shore port to port race in the United States. Typically, over 220 boats enter the event which makes it one of the largest in the country as well.
In addition to providing keen racing competition, the racing community and their compatriots will enjoy the stay in Port Aransas, which is a popular Texas fishing community that is home for the post race party and awards ceremony held in the City Pavilion on Sat., Oct. 23, where over 2,000 are expected to attend.
Racers vie for the coveted Bacardi Cup as Bacardi U.S.A. is the founding sponsor of the race. Platinum sponsors are Nautic Yacht Sales and West Marine.
