October 15 – “Fashionable" In Houston - Houston
The Jeanette Williams Foundation rolls out "Feast of Fashion," its first fundraising event in Houston. Funds will send cancer stricken children from UTMB-Galveston to camp
When Dianne Troop recently saw thirty children – children whose lives had been shattered by cancer – enjoying themselves at the Camp For All, she knew she had to work even harder to send more kids to camp next year. "When you see these kids who have to endure so many treatments, enjoying themselves and getting to act like kids without health problems, you want to send all the kids in the cancer ward to camp!"
To make that dream come true, Troop, who founded the Jeanette Williams Foundation is branching out from the group's League City/Galveston roots into Houston for their latest fundraiser, Feast of Fashion. The Magnolia Hotel will be the site of the event set to take place October 15, 2010 and will feature fashions by BCBG Max Mara, Back Bay Boutique, Jill's Formal and Johna Stallings. The jewelry trunk show will be brought in by Georgiann, and the runway sponsor is Patrick Kelly. Julie Johnson, board member of Jeanette Williams Foundation, is coordinating the fashion show along with Sherra Miller Brown and Dianne Troop, founder of the JWF.
Individual tickets for the luncheon and style show are $40, and a table of ten for the event is $400, which is very close to the $500 needed to send one child to camp. "$500 may seem expensive, but you have to understand the need for close monitoring for these kids as well as 'round the clock medical facilities. It's actually very reasonable when you think about all they get."
“This is our first event in Houston and that is exciting for the Jeanette Williams Foundation," Troop said. "It's like we're spreading our wings and flying to a new land – even if it is just a little north of us!"
The Jeanette Williams Foundation annually partners with the Rainbow Connection headed by Catalina Castro that also raises funds for the children in the hospital to attend summer camp.
