April thru September - Wednesday Night Sailboat Racing on Clear Lake – Clear Lake Area

Every Wednesday in April – Sept. 2010 6:15pm. Professional and amateur sailors get together for a friendly sailboat race on the waters of Clear Lake.  These races were created with the public in mind, and the course has been set where the race can be enjoyed by spectators from some of the restaurants around the lake.  The races start promptly at 6:15 PM and finishes  before sunset. Come and join us, and our sponsors, for an evening of fun and relaxation. There's always some commentary on the action, and if you wish to participate, you're welcome to sign up on our crew list. Lakewood Yacht Club's Blessing of the Fleet is scheduled for Sunday, April 11, 2010. All Lakewood members are invited to attend this most traditional of all yacht club events. The Blessing of boats is open to all Lakewood members so whether you have a new boat after "Ike," a "new-to-you" boat or you would like for your boat to be blessed again, please click on the registration form, fill it out and return it to the Harbor Office. For over 20 years the Galveston Arts Center has organized and produced ArtWalk, occurring every six to eight weeks on Saturday nights in the heart of Galveston's historic district. Not a street festival, ArtWalk takes place in existing galleries and non-profit spaces and also what are called "other walls," for example, restaurants and retail stores. ArtWalk promotes visual art and artists, extends alternative places to see and learn about art and hopes to bring newcomers, as well as welcome return visitors to the art community on the island.

Galveston Historical Foundation’s popular and informative spring class series starts Saturday, March 6, with “Sustainability and Historic Preservation: LEED Standards Applied to Your Historic Building.” Matthew Pelz, GHF’s Green Revival Project Coordinator, will explain the ways the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system and sustainable technologies can be incorporated into historic buildings.

The Galveston Bay Foundation will host the 1st Annual Oyster Restoration Benefit on Saturday, April 24th at the 18th Street Pier Bar and Grill. The Last Summer Kick-Off Fun Run Set for May 8th

The Nineteenth Annual Summer Kick-Off Fun Run will be held Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Clear Creek High School in League City, TX. This event includes a 5K run, a 3K health walk, and a 1K kid's run (age 12 and under). Race directors Stephen and Mariglyn Glenn have decided to make this nineteenth run the last run to commemorate James Glenn's nineteen years. The slogan for this run is "19 years old, 19 years ago". As usual, this year's run will feature abundant refreshments, a TAC-certified and USATF sanctioned 5K course, an electronically-timed race finish with finisher's times mailed out, specially-designed winner’s medals, a special award to all walkers, and entertainment by Juan Manuel of Artist Unlimited. more details...

May 8 – Strawberry Festival Parade – Pasadenastrawberry man

Strawberry Festival Parade - Saturday, May 8th. The parade will start at 10 A.M. at the corner of Spencer & Shaver proceed for one mile down Spencer to Burke, ending at the Memorial Stadium parking lot. Anyone may enter, go to www.strawberryfest.org to get the parade registration forms.
There will be lots of clowns, car clubs, floats, bands, dance groups, baseball teams, beauty queens, horse and much more. Bring your chair and sit alongside of the route and enjoy the parade.

May 8 & thru 9 - Greek Festival – Clear Lake Area

Traditional Greek foods will be available and a variety of Gift Shops will display imported items and collectibles along with designer gold and silver Greek jewelry. The Agora (Market) will offer imported items such as olive oil, calamata olives, feta cheese, etc. For kids there will be a variety of activities. Continuous music and dancing to Greek folk dances will be provided by our local, and Houston dance troupes. Audience participation is encouraged. On Sunday, mothers bringing children will be admitted free.

Generations of love, skill and creativity will go on display Feb. 12 when Galveston Historical Foundation opens an exhibit of hand-made historic quilts by Alma Spruill and Mary Cain Wilson.

Two Galveston women, Susan Bogan and Dawn Wilson, have gathered collections of their families’ quilts for public display. The exhibit, dubbed “Bogan and Wilson Family Quilts,” is scheduled at GHF’s headquarters in the 1861 U.S. Custom House, 502 20th St., Galveston. The display runs from Feb. 12 to May 21. June 18 thru 23 - XXII Regata de Amigos Spectacular – Vera Cruz

Gary Anderson, Lakewood Yacht Club’s Regatta Chairman has announced the starting date for the 22nd running of the bi-annual race from Galveston to Veracruz, Mexico.  This event, which is jointly organized by LYC and the Galveston Bay Cruising Association (GBCA) has become one of the major international yacht races in the Western Gulf of Mexico. The Regatta attracts attention and interest throughout the Gulf Coast.  Racers and cruisers will start on Friday, June 18th from Galveston and begin arriving in Veracruz about Wednesday, June 23rd.   The boats will all carry tracking transponders that turns the race into a spectator sport for friends and family who can follow the progress on the tracking website.  In addition to providing keen competition over a 630-mile course, it affords sailors and their families an opportunity to enjoy Mexico’s finest hospitality and to visit the rare and wonderful Mayan antiquities located in the State of Veracruz. there's more ...

Every Wednesday in April – Sept. 2010 6:15pm. Professional and amateur sailors get together for a friendly sailboat race on the waters of Clear Lake.  These races were created with the public in mind, and the course has been set where the race can be enjoyed by spectators from some of the restaurants around the lake.  The races start promptly at 6:15 PM and finishes  before sunset. Come and join us, and our sponsors, for an evening of fun and relaxation. There's always some commentary on the action, and if you wish to participate, you're welcome to sign up on our crew list. We always have boats looking for crew! If you own a boat and would like to participate in these races, read the race instructions, then come out and join the fun.
