Clear Lake Shores Business Update
By Ronnie Richards
There is a lot of activity to report in the Clear Lake Shores Town Center and our adjoining ETJ along FM 2094. Opus Bistro is nearly complete and plans to open within two weeks. I’m told this upscale bistro style restaurant will feature continental cuisine, full bar and a state of the art kitchen. Nothing was spared on the interior design and it will add another dimension to dining choices not only in Clear Lake Shores. In my opinion Opus will be the most elegant and upscale eatery on this side of the lake.
A new sign popped up yesterday on the three acre site on the south side of FM 2094 just east of Heads and Tails. Look for a new Outriggers restaurant on that site. The sign touts the soon to be establishment as a new concept. If you have dined at Outriggers under the Kemah – Seabrook bridge on the Seabrook side, you know what a great selection of casual dining food it offers. It’s the only privately owned restaurant on the Clear Creek Channel left and a great place to go by boat.
Two of the contemporary galvanized buildings on Aspen Road West have new tenants. Just moving into the building vacated by the Kite Shop is a new custom pool builder and his wife who has a children’s boutique. Most of the children’s clothes are sold online but I’m told that they will open half a day on Saturday to take advantage of the traffic from our highly successful Farmers Market.
Welcome Mark Craven who has taken the long vacant building directly across from the new Opus Bistro. Mark is a shipwright, a specialized occupation that traces its roots to before recorded history. Mark relocated back to Texas to continue to operate his wooden boat building and repair business. Visit his web site at www.krauscravenboatbuilding.com to see some of the incredible work he has done.
The Lights are on at the new Art Forum building on FM 2094. My curiosity got the best of me so I stopped in Tuesday evening after the EDC Meeting to see what was going on. I was welcomed by owner and island neighbor Carmel Bivens. The displays are complete and the place was amazing! That evening an art class was underway. The hands on teaching included Jim Bivens owner of Hoagie Shack plus several others. The students were receiving instruction from a professional artist working with each student one-on-one.
Stop in and welcome all of these new enterprises to our little slice of paradise. When the new Town Center infrastructure project is completed we will enjoy the ability to park our car, golf cart or bicycle and walk on the new sidewalks with lighting to any of these wonderful businesses. I expect as the project gets underway we will see more activity from new businesses locating in the area and existing businesses undergoing facelifts to capture the new look and feel of the improved district.
